Reaching New Heights

"Reaching New Heights" began as a contest in the local school system to name the City of Camilla's newest and most capable fire engine. More than 300 students from Kindergarten through Twelfth grade entered the contest. The name "Reaching New Heights" was submitted by six-year old Max Waters, and was selected by the City Council as the best among many excellent suggestions. For his efforts, Max won a party for himself and five friends at the fire station.

The new fire engine arrived just in time for the annual Christmas parade held in 2008, and Santa Claus, along with Max Waters, shared the honor of riding on it down Broad Street as hundreds of citizens cheered the grand event. The new fire engine entered service officially on February 1, 2009, and now provides the City and the surrounding environs with an unsurpassed firefighting capability.

Fire Chief Bobby Beck, is extremely pleased to have the new ladder truck in his inventory, and feels that the City of Camilla is truly "Reaching New Heights".
